Deputy Lieutenants

The Uniform of a male Deputy Lieutenant
Deputy Lieutenants are appointed by the Lord-Lieutenant. They are people from all walks of life and the number appointed is determined by population. Male Deputy Lieutenants can wear a uniform and now a badge is available for all Deputies to wear, but only on official engagements on behalf of the Lord-Lieutenant.
Deputy Lieutenants assist the Lord-Lieutenant in carrying out his role as The Queen’s Representative. Because of their expertise or role within the community, they may be asked for their help with:
Honours nominations;
Assessments for The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service;
Suggesting names for Royal Garden Parties;
Participation in Citizenship ceremonies.
The Lord-Lieutenant has an Advisory Committee, which recommends names of individuals to be considered as future Deputy Lieutenants.
