New Citizens for Liverpool and the United Kingdom

28/4/2019

Mrs Paige Earlam DL took the lead role at a Citizenship Ceremony in St George's Hall in April.  She was joined (right) by Mrs Judith Greensmith CBE DL, a former High Sheriff who herself will lead at a later Citizenship Ceremony.

Those who have successfully applied to become British Citizens must attend a ceremony within three months.  At the ceremony
new citizens have to make an oath of allegiance (or an affirmation if they prefer not to swear by God) and a pledge. This means new citizens promise to respect the rights, freedoms and laws of the UK.
At the end of the ceremony each is presented with a certificate of British citizenship and a welcome pack.

In Liverpool and from time to time in each of the four Boroughs of Merseyside, a Deputy Lieutenant is invited to represent Her Majesty the Queen and to take a lead role at the ceremony.
