The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Presentations in Sefton

Representing the Lord-Lieutenant, Mr Mark Blundell DL joined the Mayor of Sefton and other distinguished guests in Southport's Floral Hall to present Duke of Edinburgh's Awards to young people in the Borough of Sefton.  

In Sefton, over 1,000 young people took part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme over the last year.  The Scheme involves volunteering, physical activity, learning new skills and an expedition.  For Gold Award entrants there is also a residential activity.  Each year the numbers of young people starting their award is increasing across Sefton and the UK.  There are 36 registered Duke of Edinburgh Award centres in Sefton providing young people, aged 14 to 24 years, with the opportunity to take part in the Award.

The President's Dinner at the Athenaeum

The President of the Athenaeum, Professor Mark Cronin and his fellow committee members held the annual President's Dinner at the Institution in the centre of the City. 

The Athenaeum was founded in 1797 and has an atmosphere unrivalled in the City of Liverpool. It provides a distinguished setting for dinners, lunches and receptions – the perfect place to entertain friends, visitors and clients. 
At the heart of the Athenaeum is its famous library. The reading room of the Library has been called “one of the handsomest rooms in Europe”. It is frequently used as a TV and film location.

The Library has some 60,000 items in stock in the reading room and on two floors, one of which is glass. A further three bookcases stand in the Newsroom and Committee Room, housing rare books and the Roscoe Collection.

The Lord Lieutenant and Mr Muirhead, together with the High Sheriff and Mrs Davies were principal guests.

Professor Sir Jon Murphy QPM Commissioned as a Deputy Lieutenant

Professor Sir Jon Murphy QPM has been commissioned as a Deputy Lieutenant by the Lord-Lieutenant on 19th March 2017 at the Athenaeum in Liverpool.

Commonwealth Day 2017 in Liverpool

To mark Commonwealth Day 2017 in Liverpool, the Lord-Lieutenant of Merseyside, Dame Lorna Muirhead raised the Commonwealth flag on the world famous Royal Liver Building.  The Lord-Lieutenant was joined by the High Sheriff of Merseyside, Mr Jim Davies, the Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Councillor Roz Gladden and other dignitaries.
