The Lord Lieutenant, as Commandant Merseyside Army Cadets, and Mr Ronald Muirhead joined the Cadets at Altcar Training Camp where 400 Cadets celebrated the passing of 40 years since the County Cadet Force changed its name from West Lancashire ACF to Merseyside ACF. The visitors were welcomed by the Commandant, Colonel Richard Goodwin. The ceremony included a Drumhead Service conducted by senior chaplain, the Revd David Taylor. Reservists of 208 Battery, 103 Regiment Royal Artillery . All the Cadets received a commemorative mug and a slice of 40th Anniversary cake. Commemorating the Centenary of the First World War and marking 100 years of military medical history, the Liverpool Medical Institute opened its doors to the public for a unique three day free event, attended by the Lord Lieutenant and Mr Ronald Muirhead.
The displays were funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and supported by 208 (Liverpool) Field Hospital, Royal Army Medical Corps, commanded by Colonel Debbie Telford. The Army Reservists built life sized trenches and displays of First World War military medicine, equipment, uniforms and food. Displays also stressed the changes to military medicine on the battlefield today. |
