Abila Pointing MBE DL
Mrs Abila Pointing has an academic background in Psychology, Sociology and Management Studies. She gained her MA in Sociology and Social Policy from the University of Liverpool, and her Postgraduate Diploma in Management Studies from Liverpool John Moores University. Earlier qualifications, including an MA in Psychology, were acquired in Pakistan.
Her working career has included employment with Liverpool Careers Service and Nacro (the National Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders). She is an experienced manager and trainer, having managed large and small teams. Abi has delivered training on race and diversity issues to staff in the public, voluntary, health and criminal justice sectors. She has also worked at a national level with a number of criminal justice agencies on the race and diversity agenda.
In December 2010 Abi Pointing was appointed to the Council of the University of Liverpool. She is a Trustee of the Merseyside Community Foundation and an Independent Adviser on race and diversity issues to the Governor at HMP Manchester. From 2004 until March 2011 Abi Pointing was a member of Merseyside and Cheshire Courts Board.
Since leaving full time employment Abi Pointing continues work as a consultant trainer in equality and diversity. She has a strong interest in cookery and has established her own catering business.
Abi Pointing was awarded an MBE in 2008 for her community relations work in Liverpool and Manchester prisons. She was commissioned as a Deputy Lieutenant in 2010.
Mrs Abila Pointing was the High Sheriff of Merseyside for the year 2014-2015.
